Two Winners Named in 2016-17 Rocky Mountain Region 
Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions
Mary HoskinsEric Taylor, and Sarah Coit were named winners of the 2016-17 Utah District Auditions of the Metropolitan Opera National Council (MONC) held in Salt Lake City on November 12, 2016. The competition included 26 singers and was held in Libby Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah Campus. Each of the three Utah District winners received a cash prize of $1,000 and will compete with the winners of the Colorado-Wyoming, Nevada, and New Mexico districts at the Rocky Mountain Regional auditions on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 1:30 PM in the Newman Center at the University of Denver. 

The judges also awarded two encouragement awards of $500 each to Addison Marlor and Shannon JonesMary Hoskins received the Audience Choice Award. 

Sarah Coit, a 26 year-old mezzo soprano and native of Spring Hill, Florida, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Studies and a BA in Theatre Performance from the University of South Florida in 2013 and a Master of Music in vocal performance from the University of Michigan in 2015. She is currently a Utah Opera Resident Artist where she was recently featured as Mercédès in Carmen, will be a soloist at the upcoming Utah Symphony Messiah Sing-In and Mozart Requiem concerts, and will sing the role of Zerlina in Utah Opera’s May production of Don Giovanni

Mary Hoskins, a 24 year-old soprano and native of Saratoga Springs, Utah, is currently a vocal performance student at Brigham Young University. She was the first place winner of the 2013 National Association of Teachers of Singing Utah District Competition, has been a finalist in the BYU Singer of the Year and Classical Singer competitions, and received the Deborah Voigt Award at the 2016 Utah Vocal Arts Academy. 


Eric Taylor, a 22 year-old tenor and native of St. George, Utah, is currently a music student at Westminster College. He sang Luis in The Gondoliers in 2015 and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance in 2014, both with Utah Lyric Opera. 

Shannon Jones, a 22 year-old native of Magna, Utah is a vocal performance student at Weber State University. 

Addison Marlor, a 26 year old tenor and native of Salt Lake City, Utah is a vocal performance student at Utah Valley University.​
